In this class, we will discuss the famous work of some scientists, successfully complete biology lab assignments, examine why science is useful, introduce how a scientist works, and explore the many divisions in Biology.

I will be using the following textbook for reference: Biology: A Search for Order in Complexity 2nd edition.

However, a textbook is not required for this course.

**This is a continuation of the Fall Semester Biology class. The Fall Semester Biology class, however, is not a prerequisite for this course, and we will accept new students.

Juniors/Bigs Foraging Class (Section 1)

This class focuses on hands-on activities that explore the biology of the farm. We will learn what makes a farm function, from the microorganisms in the compost pile to the large cows strolling around the pasture. This class utilizes our local Conservation and Agriculture organizations to enhance the class with live demonstrations and guest speakers.

Students will explore hands-on activities incorporating all elements of STEAM to provide an unforgettable learning experience. Introducing & reinforcing science vocabulary, this class will also help teach students critical thinking & problem-solving skills in a hands-on application.

Over the course of these eight weeks, we will be reading through an age-appropriate book together while discussing the different parts of the narrative such as conflict, mood, setting, etc. We will also ask and discuss upper-level thinking questions about the story. At the end of the course, the students will each put together a story board.

We will meet once a week over the course of 8 weeks to explore and practice various areas of the theatre world, such as improvisation and character development. Through drama, we will develop oral communication skills, motivation and commitment, cooperative skills, and so much more! At the end of the two months, we will put on a small production to show off all that we have learned.

Junior Master Gardner

The Junior Master Gardner program is an innovative youth gardening project developed by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services. The program offers horticultural and environmental science education, as well as leadership and life skills development through fun and creative activities. This program is committed

to helping young people become good gardeners and good citizens so they can make a positive contribution to their community and family. Students who complete both the fall and spring semester of the JMG course and participate in our class service project will be eligible for Junior Master Gardner certification, to be presented at the conclusion of Spring semester. If your student has already completed level I certification, they will be working towards their level II certification.
